Rally to protest plan to close state park

WILSON—Local and state lawmakers have organized a rally at 2 p. m. Saturday in Wilson-Tuscarora State Park to protest a plan to close the Lake Road park along with 40 other state parks.
Assemblywoman Francine Del- Monte, D-Lewiston, and members of the Wilson Town Board and the Wilson Village Board plan to attend, DelMonte announced Thursday.
Gov. David A. Paterson last month proposed the park closures as part of a plan to save $6.5 million in the Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Wilson-Tuscarora State Park is one of two state parks in Niagara County slated for closure under the plan. The other is Joseph Davis State Park.
State Sen. George D. Maziarz, R-Newfane, and Town of Wilson Supervisor Joseph A. Jastrzemski have proposed a town takeover of Wilson-Tuscarora State Park.
